As last week's post was a chunky read, I'm keeping it zippy this week with a rundown of three great ways to wear your grey jogging bottoms. Save for when the thought of a hard waist band is Too Much.
With your wool blazer
Following the trusty high/low styling method, wearing your joggers with something tailored is a good way to elevate them beyond sofa-wear. A blazer taps into the preppy/Sloane Ranger vibe, especially if you add a baseball cap. This look will also work with your long tailored wool coat.
The below classic cuffed joggers from Uniqlo have slouch without being too baggy and voluminous, so the silhouette is more streamline. As for the blazer, it's the first foray into outerwear from With Nothing Underneath, which you know I'm a fan of. It's pricey - £350 - but 100% wool and robust enough to wear as a proper jacket over your jumpers. Imagine it also with jeans! Or your black trousers! The brand suggests sizing down.
With your bomber
For a slightly sportier take on things, layer up with your bomber jacket. The below from & Other Stories hits somewhere between khaki and olive and is the right amount of slightly sludgy to look expensive.
A luxe pair of merino wool joggers for those who like to keep their loungewear fancy. Then adding polish with hoops from Catch Rhys - an East London brand, founded by a fellow mum, which makes solid gold jewellery without a whopping mark-up. LOVE.
With your wax jacket
I wanted to feature this M&S wax utility jacket asap as it's going to sell quickly. What a great high-street find if you don't want to fork out for a Barbour. It's going to give your joggers - and jeans - a posh outdoorsy look (a good thing) without going full Balmoral cosplay.
MUMISH Readers Recommend
Our first MUMISH reader recommendation! This is from writer (and my former work-wife) Marisa who messaged me about Pai Skincare’s The Anthemis calming and hydrating moisturiser:
“It’s been an absolute game-changer for my skin since I developed mild dermatitis. Almost from the first application it cleared everything up. Glowy and fresh. It’s not outrageously priced either and all ethically made.”
Got a hot tip? If you’ve worn/tried/found something you love and want to share it with the rest of us, drop me a comment or send me a message and I’ll feature it in a future post.
One More Thing…
On the subject of great recommendations, I wanted to flag That One Thing by journalist (and new mum) Victoria Hall – a brilliant newsletter helping you navigate what’s actually useful when you have small kids via tried-and-tested recommendations from guest mums (read why a sling was my lifesaver after my daughter was born, here).
As well as sharing tips and hacks, each weekly interview gives a glimpse into someone else’s world of motherhood - something I always find interesting and reassuring. And as a former beauty editor at Harper’s Bazaar and The Telegraph (where our paths first crossed) Victoria is also great for a beauty recco. FYI, this LED mask is insane… in a good way. The brand also does really lovely and effective facials.
That’s all for now. You’re doing great, Frankie x
In case you missed it:
The playground-to-pub winter jacket
This part of the year can be a bit of a weird one when it comes to shopping. Although it's often the coldest period, fashion talk has already turned to spring/summer (in fact the next A/W shows kick off imminently… the cycle is relentless) so buying wintery pieces feels a little late in the day. Unless it's a sales bargain too good to ignore.
Great leggings, pelvic floors and snap-back culture
For me, exercise has always been a fraught subject. It's been so tied up in weight loss and diet culture and self-punishment. And I’ve never enjoyed it - school P.E. lessons made sure of that.
Thank you for the shout out! Also, I love the WNU shirts and shorts, so I might look into the blazer.
